Gandhari, daughter of King Subala of Gandhara and wife of Dhritarashtra, was revered for her austerity and loyalty. In devotion to her blind husband, she voluntarily blindfolded herself for life. Despite being blessed with one hundred sons—the Kauravas—her motherhood was marked by grief, for their arrogance and rivalry led to ruin. Gandhari tried to counsel Duryodhana toward peace, but her words went unheeded. After the war, in anguish, she cursed Krishna, holding him responsible for not preventing the destruction, a curse that later brought the downfall of the Yadavas. Gandhari embodies the tragic strength of a devoted wife and mother, torn between love and moral responsibility.
