Ekalavya

Ekalavya, the Nishada prince, is remembered as one of the greatest archers of the Mahābhārata, though denied recognition. Desiring to learn under Dronacharya, he was rejected due to his caste. Undeterred, he created a clay idol of Drona and practiced with unwavering devotion, becoming an unparalleled archer. When Drona discovered his skill, he demanded Ekalavya’s right thumb as guru dakshina to protect Arjuna’s supremacy. Obediently, Ekalavya severed it, sacrificing his mastery. Despite this, he continued practicing and later fought on the Kaurava side, where he met his death at Krishna’s hands. Ekalavya embodies selfless devotion, injustice of social hierarchy, and the tragedy of unfulfilled potential.
