Sanjaya

Sanjaya, the charioteer and advisor of King Dhritarashtra, is famed as the divine narrator of the Kurukshetra War. Gifted by sage Vyasa with the boon of divya drishti (divine sight), he could witness the events of the battlefield from afar and relay them faithfully to Dhritarashtra. Through him, the Bhagavad Gita was conveyed to humanity, as he narrated Krishna’s discourse to Arjuna. Unlike most characters, Sanjaya stands apart as an impartial observer, lamenting the destruction caused by greed and blindness. At the war’s end, he was among the few survivors, cursed with the sorrow of witnessing total devastation. Sanjaya embodies the role of truth-teller, historian, and seer, carrying forward the moral weight of the epic.
