Drona a.k.a. Dronacharya, son of sage Bharadwaja, was the revered teacher of both Pandavas and Kauravas, imparting mastery over archery and martial arts. Though a Brahmin by birth, he was unmatched as a warrior, wielding celestial weapons with precision. Bound by gratitude to Hastinapura, he became commander of the Kaurava army after Bhishma’s fall. His sense of duty was complicated, for though he loved the Pandavas, he fought against them out of loyalty to the throne. In battle, Drona was nearly invincible, devising complex formations like the Chakravyuha. However, he was slain through a stratagem when Yudhishthira declared Ashwaththama’s death, causing Drona to lay down his arms. His life symbolizes duty torn between affection and loyalty, and his fall marked a turning point in the war.
