Iravan

Iravan, son of Arjuna and the Naga princess Ulupi, was a valiant warrior who fought for the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War. Known for his self-sacrifice, he agreed to be offered to the goddess Kali to ensure the Pandavas’ victory. Before his death, he was granted a boon to experience marriage, and through divine intervention, he wed Mohini (a form of Vishnu). Iravan then fought valiantly, slaying many foes before being killed by Alambusha, the Rakshasa ally of the Kauravas. In Tamil tradition, he is worshipped as Aravan and celebrated in rituals of sacrifice and devotion. His tale highlights themes of duty, sacrifice, and divine recognition of marginalized identities.
