Shikhandi, born as Shikhandini, was the reincarnation of Amba, who sought vengeance against Bhishma for her humiliation. Raised as a prince, Shikhandi later acquired manhood through a yaksha’s boon and fought as a warrior in the Kurukshetra War. On the 10th day, Shikhandi became instrumental in Bhishma’s fall. Bhishma, recognizing Shikhandi as Amba reborn, refused to fight back, allowing Arjuna to strike him down.
